I came across this article today from the StarTribune and found the concept of developing a lid over i35W to connect the downtown area with neighborhood on the other side quite fascinating. Interesting idea around how to minimize the impact of large scale highways through the downtown core. Similar projects across the country have reclaimed space above rail yards and highways. I can only imagine that by creating parkland or usable space above existing highways that the property values along these routes would naturally increase.
Looks like it could be worth a look. Wonder if the increase in property value around these spaces could offset the cost of creating them?
