Boutique hotel, Radisson RED will be growing the number of hotels opening in downtown St. Paul.
The hotel will be the first tenant attached to a mixed-use development slated for the 2.2. acre site across from the Xcel Energy Center at the city’s Seven Corners Gateway site at West Fifth Street and North Smith Avenue. A city-owned parking lot currently occupies the space. The plans presented by Opus Development Co. LLC call for market-rate apartments, retail space and a public plaza as part of the overall complex along with the hotel.
“Finally, it’s all happening. We sat with that parking lot there for the longest time, so it’s exciting to see it coming together,” said St. Paul City Council member Dave Thune tells the Pioneer Press. “We are … crying out for more hotels. You look at the market around the Twin Cities and we are sadly behind the curve. That’s the kind of thing we need to attract business, corporations, trade shows.”
