Bob Cunningham, who was formerly with TOLD Development and now at St. Louis Park-based Melrose Development, is proposing 70 3-story townhouse for a project on sites that the city bought from the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The parcels are along the south frontage road between Highway 169 and Louisiana Avenue, South and consist of about 2.2 acres.
The proposal included four separate buildings to house 34 units which would go on the 13th Lane site, and another 36 unites would be built at the Texas Avenue site.
The Planning Commission and the City Council will still need to formally approve the proposal before construction can begin.
The land had been vacant since the 1990s when MNDOT completed construction of 394. The city had been unsuccessful in 2005 to find a residential or medical office development for the site, however over the last year, the city staff has been working with Cunningham on the townhouse plan.
The city acquired the parcels from MNDOT in June and sold them to Melrose for $488,000 in July, according to an article in Finance & Commerce.
Cunningham was part of TOLD Development when it developed the $150 million mixed-use project at Excelsior & Grand.
